Tomorrow Demands Today Campaign

Imagining a Better Tomorrow

November 25, 2024

RAND publicly launched the Tomorrow Demands Today campaign in March 2020 with the bold goal of raising $400 million to help find solutions to problems that are likely to have outsized importance during the next half-century—ones that pose existential risks if the world fails to act.

This is the most ambitious campaign RAND has ever undertaken and it was successfully completed—RAND raised more than $466 million to help expand the capacity of RAND and the Pardee RAND Graduate School to solve humanity's biggest problems.

The funds raised during the campaign are being used to advance RAND's research and analysis; expand programs, centers and institutes; support innovation and outreach; create new research chairs and fellowships; train a new generation of policy leaders at Pardee RAND; and increase the organization's agility to act when fast-breaking situations arise.

Many loyal RAND supporters, as well as new contributors—50 percent of our campaign contributors were first-time RAND donors—joined our efforts. Contributions from individual donors and philanthropic organizations are supporting efforts as varied as

  • strengthening Pardee RAND's endowment and funding research in the area of public health policy, with an emphasis on mental health and children's health and well-being
  • modernizing the RAND Archives, including constructing a new storage vault for preservation and a digital preservation studio
  • developing accessible tools to help former foster youth get the support they need to thrive.

“The significant success of the campaign has demonstrated that philanthropy has a crucial role to play at RAND. We appreciate the trust placed in RAND to use philanthropic support to help create real change for the future,” said Jason Matheny, president and CEO of RAND.
