eINSPIRE is a support person (SP)–focused intervention for the family members or close friends of a patient receiving buprenorphine for an opioid use disorder (OUD). The goals of the intervention are to increase the SP's communication skills, improve the SP's relationship with the patient, improve the SP's well-being, increase the patient's buprenorphine adherence, and decrease the patient's opioid use. The intervention also focuses on the importance of the SP's self-care and ways to improve their overall well-being.
This facilitator guide is organized into ten 60-minute online sessions and provides talking points for facilitators, information about buprenorphine and naloxone, demonstrations of helpful communication strategies, role-play exercises, and multiple handouts, all of which are designed for clinicians who want to deliver eINSPIRE in a telehealth group format. This guide might also be useful for researchers and clinicians who are interested in implementing a group-based telehealth intervention for the close friends or family members of patients with an OUD.
