Bryan Frederick

Director, Defense and Political Sciences Department; Senior Political Scientist

Bryan Frederick is the director of the Defense and Political Sciences (DPS) Department and a senior political scientist at RAND. His research interests include interstate deterrence and escalation management, conflict forecasting, military interventions, territorial disputes, international norms, the law of armed conflict, and regional security issues in Europe, East Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East. He has previously worked at the International Crisis Group, and the Issue Correlates of War Project. He completed his Ph.D. and M.A. in International Relations at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and his B.A. in Philosophy from Williams College.
