Despite an elusive definition, key characteristics of metaverses may support Joint All-Domain Operations (JADO). Their value in this capacity may be underestimated and unrealized. In fact, metaverses may offer potential as a new domain for warfare. This paper outlines key characteristics of metaverses and how they map to defining aspects of JADO. It then notes critical considerations for leveraging this emerging technology in the context of an opportunity to build a new battle domain. Especially with respect to JADO and warfare more broadly, this unrealized potential may present an advantage for whomever realizes future benefits first. There is an opportunity to be proactive rather than reactive. However, risks and threats accompany this opportunity. Looking ahead, metaverses could facilitate virtual warfare with real consequences. As such, while metaverse technology is still developing, its impact and potential applications may be greater than anticipated.
