Daniel Cunningham is an associate information scientist at RAND. His recent research has focused on Special Operations Forces (SOF) in multidomain operations, the spread of disinformation on social media, facilitating information sharing with allies and coalition partners in a variety of contexts, and improving data collection, storage, and dissemination in large government programs.

Prior to RAND, he served as a data scientist at Naval Special Warfare Command (NAVSPECWARCOM) as a member of U.S. Special Operations Command’s (USSOCOM) Intelligence Data Science Team (IDST) where he conducted intelligence-based research and analysis, as well as offered technical guidance and solutions to NAVSPECWARCOM. Cunningham worked twelve years in the Naval Postgraduate School’s (NPS) Department of Defense Analysis (DA). He taught several graduate courses at NPS and served as the CORE Lab’s Deputy Director.

Cunningham earned his Ph.D. in Information Sciences from NPS, an MA in International Policy Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS), and his BA in Politics and Government from Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU).
