Ryan Andrew Brown is a senior behavioral/social scientist at RAND and a professor of policy analysis at the RAND School of Public Policy. Brown's research focuses on the role of culture and social relationships in driving risk-taking, violence, and other destructive and self-destructive behaviors. His current work focuses on how life course experiences affect trajectories in and out of radicalization and extremism, including among U.S. veterans. He also works on improving health and social outcomes among rural and remote populations, including American Indian and Alaska Native groups. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in anthropology from Emory University, and received postdoctoral training in population health from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health and Society Scholars Program at UC-Berkeley and UC-San Francisco.
