As use of alternatives to traditional petroleum fuels such as gasoline and diesel increases, RAND researchers consider the use of these alternatives—e.g., biofuels produced from plant matter, or new propulsion methods such as electric motors—on such means of transportation as military ground vehicles, ships, and aircraft.
