Administration and Access to Justice

Across criminal and civil justice, RAND provides analysis to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of these systems, with attention to topics such as governance and accountability in the courts, the viability of insurance and compensation in response to disasters, and the emerging use of technology in these sectors.

The types of challenges we seek to solve include:

Does everyone have the resources they need to navigate the justice system?

How should we ensure that everyone has a fair process in the justice system, including access to public defense when needed? Is the justice system as effective and efficient as it can be, including through the use of technology?

When catastrophe happens, how well are systems such as justice, insurance, and other compensation systems equipped to handle the stress?

What are the best ways to take care of people after disasters, such as pandemics and terrorism? What are the most effective approaches to mass compensation?
